How many images?
Newspix has access to some of the biggest photo archives in the world – those built up for more than 100 years by our newspapers in Australia.
These contain 25 million images in the digital archives, and approximately 40 million hard-copy images, mostly B&W, in our old photo files.
The digital archives are increasing at the rate of more than 1 million pictures per year. They are updated hourly.
Third party content
Newspix also contains some third party content. These include:
Agence France Presse (AFP) world photos, licensed for reproduction in Australasia only
ICON Images celebrity images, licensed for use world-wide.
New Zealand Herald images of news, sport and editorial from NZ.
Pierre Tostee specialising in surfing photography.
What sort of images does Newspix have?
Mainly images taken by News Limited’s press photographers, who cover every major event in Australia – from news to celebrities, business to finance, overseas visitors to local heroes. While the emphasis is on news, there’s a huge range of other categories including fashion, arts, food, travel, historical, stock shots, landscapes, animals and humour.
As well as photos, Newspix can also provide artwork and info-graphics from our team of press artists, illustrators and cartoonists. Some of the best press art in the world is produced for our papers daily, and can be yours on request.
How do I get images which aren’t on the Newspix website?
It couldn't be easier - all you have to do is ask us. Newspix has an experienced photo research team who can usually fulfil your request in a couple of hours. It takes them a few minutes to download images from our digital archives, and several hours to access hard-copy images.
Requests should be emailed to: newspix@newsltd.com.au
Oldpixref We still have our image reference numbers from the previous Newspix site on this site. You can search for them using the search field.
